Unlearning Ableism: from Bias to Best Practice

The Disability Inclusion and Safety Resource Hub has been developed for organisations and practitioners who are working with people with disability who are experiencing or using family violence.

The ‘Unlearning Ableism: from Bias to Best Practice’ is a free eLearn module.
It aims to build practitioner’s understanding of the concepts of unconscious bias and ableism, and how ableist attitudes impact people with disabilities, specifically victim survivors of family violence.

The module has been developed by Women with Disabilities Victoria and Safe and Equal in consultation with the Family Violence Disability Practice Leader Initiative, Women with Disabilities Gender and Disability Experts by Experience and others.
The eLearn is designed for all practitioners who work with victim survivors of family violence with disabilities. By the end of this course, you will:

  • Build capacity to understand how unconscious bias and ableism affect service delivery for victim survivors of family violence.
  • Know how to recognise and challenge unconscious bias and ableism.
  • Get access to resources to support your continued learning in this space.

The module takes around one hour to complete. It is self-paced and you can stop and start again at any time where you left off.

The module is delivered via Canvas (Learning Management System) and is fully accessible.
