The Safe and Secure Practice Guide was developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation in partnership with the RFVP.
The Safe and Secure Practice Guide is a trauma informed practice guide for understanding and responding to children and young people affected by family violence. It can be used by individuals, teams or whole workplaces. The guide talks about the impact of family violence on children and young people, and ways that adults can support healing and growth by meeting the needs of affected children.
Safe and Secure training is also offered by the Australian Childhood Foundation in partnership with the RFVP. Safe and Secure training is for professionals in the Eastern Metropolitan Region who work children, young people and families who have experienced family violence. The training supports professionals to:
- Explore a framework for trauma-informed practice when working with children and families affected by family violence
- Develop an understanding of the impacts of family violence related trauma on children, including neurobiological impacts
- Consider the application of a model of practice that can support recovery in children
- Understand intervention within the context of a child’s culture and community
Safe and Secure training sessions are advertised via the RFVP newsletter and calendar. Click here to join our mailing list and here to view upcoming events.
